- HERSCHEL WALKER SUPPORTS NEPHEW IN SEMPER FIDELIS ALL-AMERICAN BOWL
NFL Star Herschel Walker attended East Practice in support of his nephew, Semper Fidelis All-American Milan Richard.
Semper Fidelis All-American Milan Richard continues the legacy begun by his uncle, famed college football and NFL star Herschel Walker.
Walker attended the East Team’s practice Friday, Jan. 3, to watch his nephew’s performance in anticipation of Sunday’s game. Walker expressed pride in the Clemson commits’ talent and character.
“You never knew what a kid’s going to be like, what he’s going to be.” Walker said. “(His parents) raised a great, great young man. I’ve seen him grow and his size—wow, that’s a big kid! He has really done well.”
Richard will compete for the East Team in the 2014 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl presented by the United States Marine Corps, Sunday, Jan. 5 at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. The All-Americans are selected to compete because of their talents on the field and their leadership in their communities. The players have the unique opportunity to learn the Marine Corps core values of honor, courage and commitment from Marine Corps Drill Instructors during Bowl Week.
Walker is a self-proclaimed supporter of the United States military. Since 2008 he has visited military installations worldwide with Patriot Support Programs of UHS as part of the Herschel Walker Campaign. At practice Friday, Walker revealed that he had considered enlisting in the Marine Corps before he attended the University of Georgia to play football, a career which would eventually earn him the 1982 Heisman.
“When (Milan) said he was playing in this I said ‘I’ve got to come over and see it,’” he said. “I think this is a wonderful, wonderful thing for kids to get an opportunity to do this. I think it’s once in a lifetime because this is going to get you familiar with what you go through when you get to the next level. To see him out here is so great.”
Watch the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl Sunday, Jan. 5, at 6 p.m. PST/9 p.m. EST on Fox Sports One.
